Sam

Sam

Sam, the Samurai Cat, was also another shelter find for Cheryl of Des Moines, Iowa.  She'd gone to the shelter to look at another cat she'd found on-line but when she got there, there was Sammy, turning on his back and waving his paws out the side of hte cage to get her attention.  It worked!  The Samurai Cat comes from boldly walking into his new home where he was greeted by 200 pounds of dog and promptly pronounces the house his.

Sparky

Sparky

This is Sparky.  Sparky survived the floods of 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa.  Sparky's owners lived in the Birdland Marina area and their home was completely flooded.  They had to live in a motel and Sparky had to be taken in by the Animal Rescue League.  His owners missed him terribly.  The Animal Rescue League called Peggy and asked if she could foster a cat in an emergency situation and, of course, Peggy went right out and picked up Sparky.  When she first got him home, she put him in a room all to himself.  He ate the cat food she had out for him and then just stretched out on the floor, possibly just grateful for the peace and quiet.

Peggy's other two cats, Molly and Lucy, were not all that happy about the whole situation.  Lucy hissed and growled some but mainly just had a funny sour look on her face.  Peggy reminded Molly that it had been only a year ago that she was homeless herself.  Peggy says it doesn't seem to have had an impact on Molly though. Sparky was 6 years old and weighed 13 1/2 pounds.

He stayed with Peggy until the end of November, 2008 and then she occasionally babysat him when his owners were going to be out of town. When Sparky's human daddy died his mommy was no longer able to take care of him so she asked Peggy to adopt Sparky, which she did.

Sparky passed away 04/02/2015 and is buried in Peggy's flower bed where he and the other cats loved to lounge in the summer time.

Spooky & Sissy

Spooky & Sissy

This is Spooky and Sissy, now 1, were tiny kittens when Renee from Tuscaloosa, got them.  Renee and her neighbor, Teri, tried for three months to catch them.  They were in a rain culvert at Yellow Creek in Northern Tuscaloosa County.  As it was the fall of the year, Renee knew it would be raining soon so the rescue called for some fancy foot work.  They tried traps, food, you name it.  But what got those little kittens caught was a leaf blower!  Renee and her neighbor tied a sack on one end of the culver and Renee's husband, James, took the leaf blower to the other end.  All James did was crank the blower and out the kittens scurried, right into the sack.  Both are still shy of people, but they'll let Renee pet them.  Spooky is the gray one and got her name because she spooks easily.  She is most afraid of people and very unpredictable.  Sissy is coming around and will probably be a great cat some day.

Suzy Q

Suzy Q

Suzy Q was brought to Peggy and Bob in June 2015 by their granddaughter, Cassandra.  Suzy found her way to the farm in the winter of 2014 as a 6 month old kitty.  She was partially feral when Cassandra found her and eventually asked us to take her.  She will always be partially feral but we love her and she can live her life with us.  Seems Molly was not thrilled with having Suzy Q around.  Nonetheless, they tolerated each other.
